Early Ferry Ending Dismay by Cllr Marcus Andrews

The Chair of the Poole Cherbourg Twinning Association has reacted with shock & dismay at the sudden announcement that the Poole – Cherbourg ferry service will be ending over the weekend of the 10th-11th October. This follows Brittany Ferries' decision to sell the Barfluer and not replace the ship, that was to see the service cease at the end of October. It’s now been taken away to serve a route between France to Ireland after another Brittany ferry broke down.Poole Town & BCP Councillor Marcus Andrews - the Twinning Association Chair says“this will be a great shock to everyone. It will be most disappointing to those who had booked to have one more journey in the later part of October. Also, an inconvenience for those trying to get back having left via Poole. Last year the ferry link to Poole’s twin town was extended to being year-round: now it’s gone completely and worse, suddenly ended early”.
Cllr Marcus Andrews added:“Next year is the 50th anniversary of the Twinning, recorded on Charter signed by the Mayor’s of both Towns”.
The Charter (see below) says the Twinning is:“to promote and foster friendship and understanding between the people of Poole and those of the Town of Cherbourg in France”.
Having to now travel via Portsmouth is not going to be easy and will frustrate not only Poole’s Twinning activates but affect many other Twinning Associations across Dorset who also rely on this link.
